The late 2000’s to 2021 — Gurkha settlement rights in the UK

Here we provide a set of context links to the Gurkha settlement rights and related topics dating from the last years of the first decade of the 21st Century and after. At time of providing these links (summer 2021) many will be aware that the Nepali – Gurkha pensions and rights issues, and perceived related and background injustices, provide a reminder of how complex this subject is, with impacts on veterans and their families lives and whole societies in the UK and Nepal.

At the same time major challenges have been placed before a number of UK Government departments (MoD, Home Office, Department for Education, etc.), public services, local government, advice providers, etc. by the settlement, and with issues arising indirectly such as the Home Office/UKVI ‘Gurkha DNA Scandal’ that indicate how important the challenges of effective settlement, transcultural learning and communication are for both the UK and the community itself in regard to effective Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) delivery.
